FORT WAYNE, Ind. — A microchip shortage has forced the General Motors truck plant in Fort Wayne to shut down again.

The plant will have to shut down starting next week. Workers had been back at the plant for just one day after it had reopened from a long period of being shut down. But the plant does not have enough microchips to install in the finished trucks.

“The global semiconductor shortage remains complex and very fluid,” the company said in a statement. “But GM’s global purchasing and supply chain, engineering and manufacturing teams continue to find creative solutions and make strides working with the supply base to minimize the impact to our highest-demand and capacity-constrained vehicles, including full-size trucks and SUVs for our customers.”

They say the plant will close during the week of August 9th through the 16th. The company says they expect it to be a “near-term issue” and that the shutdown is not going to last long.
