Ivy Tech’s newest facility is a $14 million  automotive technology center on Indy’s west side.
Indianapolis chancellor Kathleen Lee says Ivy Tech has been talking about replacing its auto tech center for a decade. The old building is a converted bakery.
The logjam finally broke with the donation of land near Lafayette Square Mall. At 59,000 square feet, it’s actually slightly smaller than the old building. But Lee says it’s more usable because it’s not split between two floors. Lee says the layout of the new space will make it easier to incorporate newer technologies like electric and alternative-fuel cars. It can also accommodate 500 students, double the current building.
