INDIANAPOLIS–IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe was inducted into the Red Cross Hall of Fame Wednesday.
On May 18 2015, Hinchcliffe sustained serious injuries in a crash caused by a suspension failure during practice for the 2015 Indianapolis 500. He was in the hospital during the race and Ryan Briscoe took Hinchcliffe’s position. Briscoe and Conor Daly replaced Hinchcliffe in the car for the remainder of the 2015 season.
Four blood donors stepped through the Red Cross to donate blood to Hinchcliffe that year. Two of them attended the Hall of Fame ceremony Wednesday.
“To have actually tracked down four of the donors that literally helped save my life and I actually get to see two of them in person, there really aren’t words if I’m honest. I just can’t thank everyone in the Red Cross enough for making that happen because that’s incredibly special,” Hinchcliffe told WISH TV.
The Red Cross said it inducted Hinchcliffe into their Hall of Fame for his contributions hosting blood drives across the country to show how important it is to give blood to those who need it.
