Indianapolis’ Culture Of Violence

Indianapolis’ Culture Of Violence. Our very own Indianapolis is just failing in every single way. It was a bloody weekend in the capital city, with leadership, government and civic, failing to address Indy’s culture of violence.
Our very own Indianapolis is just failing in every single way. A series of shootings that took place young people involved in these shootings from, you know, on Independence Day Friday into Saturday, and Saturday into Sunday. Woman shot on E Michigan street near North Chester. A man shot during an attempted carjacking was a carjacking. The driver shot the man to prevent the carjacking. This is the conversation about what’s happening to our city, I stated earlier. Because the fear of conversation is what leads to serious problems. People are going to take a look at Indianapolis. I can remember it was a quite a few years ago. Um, “if gang members are shooting gang members. People are stupid people shooting stupid people. It’s nothing more than a self-cleaning oven. It’s fine.” It was never fine. It was always an awful analogy. These things grow, these things build, and these things destroy the fabric of a city, a city that we need for opportunity. While the people of Indianapolis may not know this, rational people certainly know this. While the city County Council doesn’t act upon this, rational people need to act upon this. Which is why I asked where are the civic leaders? I want to know where Herb Simon is. I want to know where Jeff Smulyan is. I don’t know where Dave Ricks is. I’m not interested if they’re my friend. I didn’t ask them to be my friend. I want to know where the voice is. Why? How possibly are you silent in these situations? Jennifer Rumsey? Where? Why the silence? Don’t even tell me about civic leaders. “Ohh. I run this foundation. I run that foundation.” You don’t have anything to say about murders in in Indianapolis, violence in Indianapolis and a culture that allows it. Because you’re afraid to have a cultural conversation because you think this is about black and white? Well, I have no time for anybody else’s cowardice. This isn’t about black and white. This is about right and wrong.
