Indiana Eliminates Funding To Public Broadcasting Stations

Indiana eliminates funding to public broadcasting stations. The federal government follow and do the same. Why shouldn’t WFYI compete in the marketplace like WIBC does?
You can shake an apple off and so in this budget that ridiculously and insultingly attacks small business in Indiana, and is being cheered by Democrats and Republicans alike. They did remove $7.3 million that was supposed to go to public radio and public television for the next two years. Now, according to the IBJ, Dave Lindquist with the reporting, “the state’s budget, the 17 radio and television stations that are affiliates of PBS and NPR. They are getting cut. To go from a fully funded request to 0 was a surprise, according to Mark Newman, executive director of the Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations. “I think having some sort of reduction in the amount would have made more sense. We would willingly accept the reduction because we feel we’ve been good partners. The relationship we’ve had with the legislature has always been very strong and it continues to be strong and allow me to compete.” I don’t believe NPR deserves any funding whatsoever. I’m not interested in in FYI getting any funding whatsoever. I have no issue with their existing, but you exist like I exist. You go out there into the marketplace and you prove you’re worth every day…We have an audience, we’ve built an audience, we’ve cultivated an audience. We take care of an audience. You should really put your ad dollars here. We have to go out there and compete. Why does NPR deserve $7,000,000, or some portion thereof from the state? I would not give NPR a dime. I don’t have to give NPR a dime. You, someone else might decide to. It’s fine by me. But this idea that somehow you provide a public service that means you deserve dollars? No, you don’t. You provide an ideological service. And you should go out there and push that ideological service and get people to sponsor you. Not make demands of us. If I could say anything good about this budget, cutting them, But it’s very hard to say good things about this budget when Republicans and Democrats alikes aid “ohh, my gosh, there’s a shortfall, but we don’t know what the shortfall will be. Let’s panic and screw over small businesses.”
