STATEWIDE — This Halloween, first responders are offering some tips in order to help you and your family stay safe.

The Wayne Township Fire Department sent out a list of tips Friday, which include:

  • Choosing costumes made of flame-resistant materials, and incorporating reflective materials or bright colors to enhance visibility.
  • Considering the use of makeup instead of wearing masks, in order to avoid vision obstruction.
  • Keeping all decorations away from heat sources, and/or using battery-operated lights.
  • Accompanying kids while they are trick-or-treating, and bringing flashlights.
  • Watching closely for kids and pets as you are driving, especially in neighborhoods.
  • Waiting to eat treats until you are home and can ensure they are unopened and contain no allergens.
