STATEWIDE–Temperatures are supposed to warm up across Indiana all week long.

“Today we’ll have a high around 78. Tuesday will be warmer with a high of 85. Wednesday will be warmer than that with a high near 88. By Thursday, our high is around 89. So overall, we get a little taste of summer as we head through the month of September,” said Jason Puma, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.

Despite that, however, Puma doesn’t expect any heat index values reaching the triple digits like what happened previously during the summer. He also says the threat for severe weather is low this week.

“It still will be hot for this time of year. If you are doing outdoor activities, you still need to do those things we’ve been doing all summer long like staying hydrated, wearing loose fitting clothing, and taking a break or spending some time inside with the air conditioning,” said Puma.

Even though Puma expects a dry week, he says don’t be surprised if there is some rain that moves into Indiana by Friday.

“The leftovers of a tropical system in the Gulf of Mexico may reach the Ohio Valley, but there is still too much uncertainty with that system to know for sure,” said Puma.
