STATEWIDE--Heat index values will be between 95 and 100 degrees both Monday and Tuesday across Indiana, but that changes as the week goes on.

There’s also some possibility for severe storms in northern and central Indiana Tuesday night.

“Our primary threat is damaging winds that could be in the 50 to 60 mph range and some heavy rain at times,” said Earl Breon, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis. He doesn’t expect tornadoes to be a factor.

The heat starts to dissipate starting Wednesday.

“Once we get through Tuesday and into Tuesday night, things clear up quite a bit and we get into clear conditions,” said Breon.

Breon says highs should drop into the upper 70s and lower 80s in most places across the state on Wednesday. They’ll stay in the 80-degree range for the rest of the week.

He also has a word of advice when you look at the temperature.

“The temperatures aren’t overly hot themselves. The humidity is the complicating factor,” said Breon. The heat index is an index that combines air temperature and relative humidity, in shaded areas, to posit a human-perceived equivalent temperature, as how hot it would feel if the humidity were some other value in the shade.
