Kelly Krauskopf On Becoming First Woman Hired As NBA Assistant GM
INDIANAPOLIS — It’s a job she says she knows she can do.
On Monday, the Indiana Pacers named Kelly Krauskopf as their next Assistant General Manager. She’ll be the first woman in the NBA to hold that position.
“It isn’t anything that I consciously pursued,” says Krauskopf in an interview with 93 WIBC’s Tony Katz. “It was an opportunity that was presented to me and I’ve been running the [Indiana] Fever for 19 seasons and this is a great next chapter in my career.”
“There’s no female that ever gets that, quote, ‘first position’, that wants to be seen as somebody who just got it because they were checking a box. I mean, it’s about earning it,” says Krauskopf.
She says she wants to build upon the team’s success and bring an NBA championship to Indiana.
“We’re trying to win championships. We’re trying to create a perennial powerhouse in the NBA,” says Krauskopf.
Krauskopf will begin as the team’s new Assistant General Manager on Jan. 1.
