FISHERS, Ind. — For decades, one Fishers resident has been quietly, yet consistently, making a significant impact on the community’s cleanliness. Stan Schenher, widely known as “Stan the Trash Man,” has become a familiar figure, dedicated to picking up litter and maintaining the aesthetic appeal of local neighborhoods.

Schenher’s commitment to community service spans an impressive 55 years. His voluntary efforts began during his college years in northern Indiana, where he started collecting trash during his runs. Since the age of 20, Schenher has unofficially taken on the role of a “trash man,” demonstrating an enduring dedication to public spaces.

While his initial efforts were on foot, Schenher’s current mode of operation is perhaps his most recognizable feature. He is now frequently seen navigating the streets of Fishers in a distinctive star-spangled golf cart, utilizing it to efficiently collect refuse throughout the area. Schenher’s consistent work serves as a testament to the power of individual initiative in fostering a cleaner environment.
