Evansville Teenager Arrested in Clown Mask Burglaries

VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. — The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says a teenager was arrested after surveillance video showed them wearing a clown-like mask in Evansville.
The arrest is connected to break-ins involving cars and homes in the Wellington Acres neighborhood on Vanderburgh County’s northeast side. These happened overnight last Thursday, with cash, a laptop, and designer handbags all stolen. Surveillance video showed the 16-year-old wearing the mask at the scene, which deputies later found the mask in the road.
Deputies returned to the same neighborhood on Sunday after several people informed them about the teenager trying to break in vehicles and a garage. One person said their window screens at their home were gone. However, deputies say the teenager did not gain entry. They were identified by their own parent.
Vanderburgh County deputies say the teenager admitted to the break-ins, and the stolen property was recovered.
Deputies say the teenager was taken to the Youth Care Center. They remain in custody there, pending further proceedings, which will be handled by the Vanderburgh County Juvenile Court. All recovered property will be returned to its owner.
