KOSCISUKO COUNTY, Ind. — An officer-involved shooting is under investigation after the Warsaw Police Department said a man led officers on a pursuit before ramming into a police vehicle.

According to detectives with the Indiana State Police, a Warsaw officer tried to conduct a traffic stop on a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado just after 3:30 a.m. Saturday. The driver of the truck did not stop and led officers on a short pursuit. The fleeing driver eventually drove into a stationary Warsaw Police SUV near the intersection of SR 13 and E CR 150 North. The officer in the SUV was exiting his vehicle at the time of the collision and was later treated for a leg injury.

The driver of the Chevy truck drove around and came back, crashing into the same police vehicle again. The officer in that vehicle then fired off one shot which hit the truck but did not strike the driver or his passenger.

Following the second collision, the driver of the truck fled fled on foot into a nearby field but was located and then taken into custody by a K9 officer with the Warsaw Police Department.  The passenger in the truck was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital where he was treated for back pain and then released.

The driver of the Chevrolet has been identified as Lance Walter, 37 of Mansfield, OH. He was taken to the Kosciusko County Jail for preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and attempted murder.

The investigation is ongoing. ISP is conducting interviews and reviewing in-car and body worn camera footage.

All information relating to the investigation will be turned over to the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office at the conclusion.
