Slate Auto to Manufacture Electric Trucks in Warsaw Indiana
WARSAW, Ind.–Slate Auto, based in Michigan, will build a plant to manufacture electric trucks in Warsaw.
The announcement was made Wednesday by the Kosciusko Economic Development Corp.
The factory will be built out in the old R.R. Donnelly printing plant just west of downtown Warsaw.
Slate is expected to employ 2,000 people at the site, once it is complete.
Slate will offer a bare bones model, which is priced in the mid $20,000 range, with federal tax credits, making it more affordable than other electric trucks.
Customers can also choose to add extras.
The truck starts with a package that delivers a 150 mile range.
The truck will be sold directly to customers, bypassing dealerships to keep costs down.
The start-up is backed by Jeff Bezos.
Trucks may be available from the Warsaw factory as early as late 2026.
