IMPD Releases Body Cam Footage from Officer Involved Shooting Last August

INDIANAPOLIS – IMPD released body cam footage Friday afternoon showing what happened during an officer involved shooting last August.

IMPD SWAT officers were serving a narcotics search warrant for a motel room off Pendleton Pike near North Post Road August 23rd.

Kentrail Small was the suspect believed to be inside the motel room. Body cam footage showed officers blaring sirens to try and get Small to surrender. When he did not come outside, SWAT officers broke into the room.

Footage showed Small and a woman get out of the bathroom. Officers immediately ordered Small to get on the ground.

While they were trying to arrest Small, he could be seen with a gun in his hand. Officers were heard shouting “he’s got a gun!” moments before Small was shot. He later died in the hospital.

IMPD says their investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
