INDIANAPOLIS — 15-year-old Dylan Pearcy was hit by a car as he was riding on his bike to his house from the YMCA last Thursday.
His mother, Catrina Smith-Pearcy was proud that her son bought his own bike, but she says she was always anxious about him getting hit on the road.
Dylan would give snarky replies to his mom because he thinks she’s being overprotective.
“When he leaves out of here, I say to him, ‘Please be careful,’” she said. “And he, being the teenager he is, says, ‘I’m going to get hit by a car.’”
But he was then hit by a dark gray SUV, which broke his wrist and scrapped his knee.
A mom and her daughter asked Dylan if he was okay, they talked to each other in another language, and then drove off and left the teenager at the scene.
“[It was] shocking,” Dylan said. “More shocking than anything because nobody expects to get hit by a car.”
Dylan is now recovering, but his family is not sure if he needs surgery.
Police are now describing this crash as a hit-and-run a week after a 14-year-old was hit and killed by a car.
“It could’ve been so much worse,” Smith-Pearcy said. “I just want her to be held accountable. You can’t just hit people and run away, walk away. You just can’t do that. Just the anger of somebody hitting him and not stopping is awful.”
His family is urging drivers to slow down and be careful.
Police are still investigating the crash.
