INDIANAPOLIS — This weekend, cooler temperatures will prevail as a cold front moves through the state, ending the recent extreme heat.
Today, it will feel like it’s over 100 degrees, with actual temperatures in the mid-90s.
“We’re expecting much cooler weather for the weekend; the front is going to pass through tonight into early tomorrow, and that’s going to bring high temperatures for us in the low 80s,” said Andrew White of the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.
Central Indiana has experienced 90-degree temperatures for at least 18 days in the past week, the most in nearly four years.
The weather forecast looks good for those traveling over the Labor Day weekend.
“We’re expecting a high temperature of 77 [degrees] for the Indianapolis area. As you get closer to Northern Indiana, it may struggle to get out of the 70s, but with dew points in the mid-50s, it will feel pretty good,” White said.
White explained that when dew points are high, the air is humid and feels hotter. When they’re low, the air is drier and feels cooler.
Forecasters say they’re tracking chances for severe weather tonight, with damaging winds being the biggest threat.
