INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana’s Task Force 1 has been activated as South Carolina prepares for Hurricane Debby, which is expected to strengthen.

Debby is the fourth named storm of the season to impact the continental U.S. The task force includes skilled search and rescue experts who help find people trapped in their homes and provide aid to those affected by disasters.

Hurricane Debby brought heavy rain to South Carolina on Sunday, causing flooding. The team is prepared to stay as long as necessary, with deployments typically lasting seven to 14 days but sometimes extending up to three weeks.

Task Force 1 is one of six teams nationwide responding to the situation in South Carolina and Georgia.
