A Child Was Shot And Killed On Indy’s Northwest Side Tuesday Afternoon

INDIANAPOLIS — A child was killed Tuesday afternoon in a shooting on the west side of Indianapolis.
Indianapolis Metro Police responded to a report of a person shot in a neighborhood near West 46th Street, just outside the I-465 loop at around 3:00 p.m. That’s where officers found a boy with gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A person of interest has been detained and the incident and detectives say the shooting was not a random act. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the boy once his family has been properly notified.
A neighbor told WIBC “it was accidental. The grandfather brought a gun with him and the kids were playing with it and one of them got shot in the chest.”
Police have not released information about the circumstances leading to the shooting
