INDIANAPOLIS –Two men were arrested Monday morning on the north side of Indianapolis, but not before causing a police chase and a standoff, says IMPD.

Police said they were called to the 100 block of West Fall Creek Parkway to investigate two men who they believe may have stolen catalytic converters. Officers found a car matching the description of the suspects they were looking for and tried to pull it over, but the driver sped away.

The driver led police on a short chase before crashing near 43rd Street and Capitol Avenue.

The two men stayed inside the car and caused a standoff with officers at the scene. IMPD says they were able to talk some sense into the men and they were eventually arrested.

No one was hurt, but police say they also confiscated a gun that was in the car.

Police say catalytic converter thefts are common because they contain valuable metals like platinum, palladium, and rhodium. These metals can be sold for a high price, which is why thieves go after them.
