INDIANA WEATHER

updated for Indianapolis

from wibc.com's Rob Wasson

High pressure will slowly move out of the region and allow some rain to move in on Friday. Widely scattered thunderstorms are also possible this Saturday and Sunday, with totals ranging from .25" to .50". Next week should start off dry on Monday and Tuesday, but moisture from the remains of Tropical Storm Fay could drastically change that forecast with a good chance of rain. There is still a lot of uncertainty with the track of Fay through the region in the extended forecast, so check with us here for the latest updates.

Tips for Knozone Air Quality Action Days

Tuesday, August 19, 2008 is a Knozone Air Quality Action Day!

The AQI forecast indicates that ground-level ozone levels will be elevated. Ground-level ozone is created when heat from the sun reacts with emissions from cars, small engines and industrial sources and is a key component of urban and regional smog. Many scientific studies have associated ozone pollution with serious health problems, such as aggravated lung disease. Children, the elderly and people already suffering from lung disease are especially vulnerable to its effects.

Simple steps like turning off your car’s engine whenever possible, waiting until after 6 p.m. to pump gas or to mow your lawn, and carpooling or riding the bus to work help clean the air. By working together, we can make a visible difference to central Indiana’s air quality!
