FILLMORE, Ind. — A 20-year-old was killed in a crash early Sunday morning in Putnam County involving an off-road vehicle.

Conservation officers were called to the scene around 2:20 a.m. near Heritage Lake and found Hayden Salapek, 20, or Warren, Pennsylvania, unresponsive in the roadway. He had been ejected from the driver’s seat.

Salapek was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers say the 27-year-old passenger, of Fillmore, was transported to the hospital after complaining of back pain. He was believed to be wearing a safety harness at the time of the crash.

Both victims were not wearing helmets, according to investigators. They also say alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.

An autopsy is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Monday at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute.
