CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — It’s not exactly the “Space Force” President Trump was looking for, but it’s a start.
Vice-President Mike Pence was at Kennedy Space Center today where two rockets were set to be launched carrying national security satellites for the US Air Force. Pence says Trump has directed the formation a the brand new US Space Command.
“This command will be the eleventh combative command in the United States,” Pence said. “It will be led by a four-star flag officer and will establish unified control over all our military’s space operations.”
The two rocket launches, one by SpaceX at Kennedy Space Center and the other by United Launch Alliance at a launch site at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, were both scrubbed today do to bad whether.
“I know this bird is going to fly and when it does it’s going to make a difference for the security and prosperity of the American people,” Pence said.
Both rockets are carrying satellites for the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office.
