WASHINGTON, D.C. — It’s now Day 26 of the partial government shutdown in Washington.

Indiana Senator Todd Young is calling on congressional Democrats to revert to their previous position of passing border security funding, which he says the have moved away from.

“Nancy Pelosi could end this shutdown today,” Young said to Tony Katz Today. “All she needs to do is agree with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer from just month ago.”

Young reiterated President Trump’s claim there is a humanitarian and national security crisis on the U.S’s southern border. As far as whether or not he supports the president declaring a national emergency on the matter, Young held his cards close.

“I was initially uncertain on whether a national emergency could be declared under these circumstances,” Young explained. “I’ve since looked at legal precedent where national emergencies have been called in all manner of cases. Let’s just say there is a plausible case to be made.”

The shutdown is the longest of any kind in U.S. history. President Trump’s own economic advisors say the shutdown is slashing a tenth of percent from the US economy for every week that it continues.
