Purdue Approves Long-Term Campus Plan

INDIANAPOLIS — Purdue University leaders have approved a long-term plan to grow the new Indianapolis campus.
Over the next 50 years, they plan to build 16 new buildings, with space for 15,000 students and more than 5,000 dorm beds.
The first building, the Academic Success Building, is already under construction at Michigan and West streets. It will be 15 stories tall and include classrooms, labs, housing, dining areas, and public spaces. Purdue says it should be finished by May 2027.
“The master plan for building the future for Purdue’s first comprehensive urban campus in Indianapolis is the product of numerous meetings and feedback sessions with faculty, staff, students and the community,” said Jay Wasson, Purdue’s vice president for physical facilities and chief public safety officer.
This is all part of Purdue’s effort to grow its presence in Indianapolis. They’re focusing on teaching, research, student life, and working with local businesses.
“These meetings took place over many months, and the resulting plan will provide the framework for future campus growth and development,” Wasson added.
The new campus officially opened on July 1, 2024, after Purdue and Indiana University split the IUPUI campus into two separate schools.
Purdue says the Indianapolis campus will stay closely connected to West Lafayette. Students will follow the same classes, standards, and schedules, and they can choose which location to attend.
The expansion is being led by Dan Hasler, a former state commerce secretary and executive at Eli Lilly.
