Being Dishonest With The Electorate

Being dishonest with the electorate and now having a frustrated electorate, that can’t be a good sign. Voters feel lied to. The governor ran on property tax relief. At best, the relief will be a $300 credit to homeowners, at worst they will pay more because local municipalities will raise their income taxes. It’s deceit to claim “we’re in the fight with you,” and then fold as soon as there is any blowback.
Tony Katz:
Property taxes have now been signed, and that’s the end of that… Signed into law.
Today I signed historic tax relief for Hoosiers into law. Nearly every Hoosier, homeowner, farmer, and business owner will benefit from tax cuts, reforms, and stronger taxpayer protections! pic.twitter.com/WWVeD17JyP

Sure, my argument has not been moved nor swayed. Spoke to some other people. I think that they are missing a forest for the trees. The argument was that the property taxes have been going up, and going up, and going up. And that the result of those taxes, a value add from the municipality or the state, whatever the case may be, we’ll call it the city here because that’s where the property taxes are paid, locally. It isn’t there it isn’t felt. Taxes go up 100%, roads are not 100% better. They’ll tell you roads are not 50% better. We were told that by every elected, every wannabe elected official for the race for governor was paying attention to such a thing. I did every one of those interviews with every candidate.
That’s what they all said. This is a 1/2 measure on what originally wasn’t super great. We decided it was great because it was put out there. There is a boldness issue with the Republican Party. Now they can disagree with me, and they could tell me about good stewardship, and I’m not going to argue that they don’t get that luxury of just having a point of view and not having other constituents who think differently. I’m not going to argue that. I am going to argue that I have absolutely no faith that this party would look at some other group of people and say yes, but you’re wrong. And that is where the boldness is. And no, this Republican Party doesn’t have it. So, this is it? It’s kind of like 1/2 measure. Some people believe it actually sets a better groundwork and framework going forward. Sure, whatever you say. Not quite sure how you couldn’t have done two things at the same time, but that’s the Indiana Republican Party. And for Speaker Huston or anybody else who’s bothered by the words that I say, you know you never reached out, right? Never once. So, with all due respect, I’m not interested in whether or not you like the words that I say if you’re not interested in speaking to the people I speak to. Not even interested in speaking to me, to maybe provide a different view. I’ve got maybe three people from the General Assembly who reach out or I reach out. We engage in some level of regularity and that’s not frequent. The rest of you? The rest of you just ignore. So don’t be surprised some people are angry because they really do feel lied to. They really do feel that it was a bait and switch. All of this “we’re in the fight with you” that wasn’t real. That’s frustrating stuff. I don’t know about you, but being dishonest with the electorate and now having a frustrated electorate, that can’t be a good sign. Can’t be.
