HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind — Former Purdue football coach Ryan Walters and his wife, Tara, are selling their home, which was listed last weekend for $4.9 million.
However, the initial home builder, Steve Schrader Homes, filed a lawsuit in June in Hamilton County, claiming the Walterses breached their contract.
The couple signed an agreement with Schrader Homes on May 10, 2023, about five months after Walters became Purdue’s head football coach. The lawsuit states Schrader Homes was contracted to provide labor, services, equipment, and materials to build the Walterses’ home at 2425 Gattem Farm Way, located northwest of West Lafayette.
The budget for the home was $3.5 million, according to the lawsuit.
The Walterses denied the claims and filed a counterclaim, alleging they were misled into believing Schrader Homes had an excellent reputation.
The counterclaim asserts that the couple was persuaded to sign a document they did not fully understand or agree to, which they claim was presented as a binding contract. They argue they never finalized the home’s design or cost.
