MADISON COUNTY, Ind. — A man, who was shot by a Pendleton officer Wednesday, has died.

Authorities got the call about a person who was walking on the road of I-69 around 4:30 p.m.

“During the interaction between the officer and the individual, the individual’s actions led to the officer drawing his weapon,” Indiana State Police Sergeant Scott Keegan says.

State Police say the man’s actions are what caused him to get shot, and officers were wearing body-worn cameras during the shooting. They are now looking into what led up to it.

“At this time, we do know that there was a knife found at the scene, near where the suspect was, but we are not sure what actions let to the shooting,” Keegan says.

The man was taken to a hospital in Fishers to get treatment, but he did not survive.

The officer who opened fire was put on administrative leave, which is standard in these cases.

No other individuals were injured in the shooting.
