SEYMOUR, Ind. — By now, you have probably heard about avian flu cases impacting farmers across the Hoosier state. One of the farms recently affected has faced multiple controversies in the last few years.
Rose Acre Farms recently revealed that its Cort Acre Egg Farm in Seymour first noticed birds dying last Saturday, January 25th. Tests determined that they had contracted avian flu, also known as bird flu.

In a post to Facebook, the organization said:
“We have been previously affected by bird flu, and we know the necessary steps to mitigate further spread. We have been and are continuing to work with the Indiana State Board of Animal Health and the state veterinarian on best practices.”

But, this is not the first time Rose Acre Farms has been in the news for…less than stellar reasons.
In 2023, a jury determined that the company and other egg suppliers around the country had been working together to limit egg supplies – thereby forcing customers to pay more – in the mid-2000s.
And, in 2018, it recalled more than 200 million eggs after learning that they might have been contaminated with salmonella. At that time, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration said the questionable eggs had been distributed from Rose Acres’ facility in Hyde County, North Carolina.
