LOGANSPORT, Ind.– An officer from the Logansport Police Department is accused of neglect and has been placed on administrative leave.
There was a Facebook post on Sunday with a six-year-old girl standing out in the cold and holding a sign expressing violent intentions toward her brother. Police found out about the incident when several calls were made to Cass Central Dispatch.
The belief among both neighbors and police is that she was misbehaving, so the officer had her stand outside in the frigid temperatures holding the sign up as punishment. Neighbors in the area say the officer is the girl’s guardian.
“The public’s trust is of paramount importance to us, and we take any allegations of misconduct very seriously. We are committed to maintaining the integrity of our department, and we will ensure a full and transparent process as we review the circumstances surrounding this incident,” said Logansport Police Chief Travis Yike in a statement over the weekend.
Yike also reiterated that while the officer is on leave, the department is committed to upholding professionalism, integrity, and service to the community.
