INDIANAPOLIS — Highs in the 40s today might feel mild, but brace for the coldest air of the year tomorrow. Wind chills are expected to make Indianapolis feel like 4 below zero.
“By tomorrow morning, lows will drop to 10-14 degrees across Central Indiana, with wind chills below zero,” said National Weather Service Cody Moore. “If you’re outside and not dressed properly, it can be dangerous.”
Tonight, winds will pick up as snow moves across the state. If traveling, be aware that blowing and drifting snow could create hazards. The snow is expected to begin around 8 p.m.
“You can consider this an arctic blast,” Moore said. “This is coming from Canada. We are going to have northwest winds ushering in very chilly temperatures. As that cold front moves through, we’ll get some snow showers. In addition to these snow showers, we’ll have winds gusting at 40-45 miles an hour.”
Moore added that it won’t just be snow; blowing and drifting will make it hard to determine how much has fallen. Some areas could see up to a half inch of snow when it’s all said and done.
Once the cold air passes expect highs in the 40s and dry conditions this weekend.
