Former Democrat Tulsi Gabbard Joins Republican Party
A former Democratic candidate for president has formally announced she is joining the Republican Party.
Tulsi Gabbard served as Hawaii’s 2nd District in Congress as a Democrat from 2013-2021. She was also vice chair of the Democratic National Committee from 2013 – 2016, before resigning to endorse Sen. Bernie Sanders for president in 2016. She ran as a Democratic presidential candidate in 2020. However, a few years later in 2022, Gabbard became tired of the extremism of the left and declared herself independent.
Gabbard serves as a lieutenant colonel in the US Army Reserves.
Gabbard surprised many after she recently joined Trump’s campaign as an honorary cochair for the former president’s transition team. She has since been outspoken on Trump’s leadership in bringing the Republican party together.
She made the official announcement during a Trump rally in North Carolina.
“I’m proud to stand here with you today, President Trump, and announce that I’m joining the Republican Party. I am joining the party of the people… the party of equality. The party that was founded to fight against and end slavery in this country. It is the party of common sense and the party that is led by a president who has the courage and strength to fight for peace.”
Even Trump was humbled in the moment, afterwards thanking Gabbard. “Thank you very much, Tulsi. That’s great. Wow, that was a surprise. That was really, she’s been independent for a long time. That’s a great thing. A great honor. Thank you very much, Tulsi.”
In case anyone is keeping record, within the last week the Republicans got Gabbard and the Democrats got the Cheney family…
