INDIANAPOLIS — It was an argument over a pick-up basketball game that led to five people getting shot on Sunday in Indianapolis.

The shooting happened on the south side of the city at the Laurelwood Apartments along Teakwood Drive at around 8:15. Indy Metro Police got the call around then and when they arrived at the basketball court at the apartment complex they found the victims.

One of the victims was a 17-year-old boy. Three of the other victims were women and another was an adult man.

“This is a close, tight-knit community,” said IMPD Night Watch Captain John Arvin. “It’s terrible to have something like this over a basketball disturbance. We have young kids out playing. Sunday night, humid weather, and people get upset. They need to find other ways to calm their disturbance and make it safer for the whole community.”

Arvin said they have a person of interest detained.
