Congressman Jim Banks: It Is Harder To Buy A Pack Of cigarettes In America Than It Is To Register To Vote

Tony Katz:

That is Representative Summer Lee, a Democrat out of Pennsylvania. Explaining why we should not have the SAVE Act, a piece of legislation. That says you have to provide proof of citizenship when registering to vote… Congressman Jim Banks joins me right now from the Indiana Third District, also the Republican candidate for Senate in the state of Indiana. The vote taking place last night. The Republicans, 5 Democrats voted to get this passed, 198 Democrats opposed this piece of legislation. Let’s start from the basics, Congressman. The SAVE Act, I believe started in the Senate. I believe it was Senator Mike Lee. What is the purpose here?

Congressman Jim Banks:

Well, it’s simple Tony. Today it is harder to buy a pack of cigarettes in America than it is to register to vote. We all believe that voter ID is important when you show up at the polls to prove you are who you are when you vote. But this gets to the basics of registering to vote and requiring documentation that proves that you are an American citizen to register to vote. But let me get to the basics of this, Tony. What this is all about is that Joe Biden has flooded America with 10 million illegals since he became president, and they want to allow those illegals to vote now in this upcoming election. We must do everything that we can to stop them, or this will again rig the election in the Democrats favor. So, the SAVE Act requires state election officials to ask about citizenship when they show up and vote. We know that in cities like Washington DC and in San Francisco they allow non-citizens to vote in those in those elections. So, we can’t allow that to drift into federal elections and that’s why there’s a federal nexus here to pass, a law in Congress to block these measures that Democrats and Democrat cities and states are allowing illegals and non-citizens to vote. So, it’s as simple as that.

Tony Katz:

So, the the response from the Democrats has been that what you’re actually trying to do is engage in voter suppression. This was the leader of the Democrats in the House, Hakeem Jeffries, making that point.

Tony Katz:

Now he’s trying to make the point that only citizens can vote for these offices. Anyway, your point is that’s not true on a local level. You want to prevent it on a federal level. But then he talks about jamming people up. Can you comment to what it is you think he’s discussing?

Jim Banks:

Well, it’s just the opposite. This has been a really bad week for the Democrats by the way. And here they are, Hakeem Jeffries, the Democrat leader in the House, admitting out loud that they want to prevent measures in states like Indiana that would block non-citizens from voting. Yes, I want to suppress non-citizens and illegal immigrants from showing up to vote on Election Day. They shouldn’t be allowed to vote. And if you Hakeem Jeffries really believes what he says, that only American citizens can vote in elections, then he should be fully willing to pass a bill like the SAVE Act. But almost every single Democrat voted against it. Again, because they want to. They want illegals to be able to vote in America. Well, I don’t care what he said on the floor. That’s what they want. That’s why they flooded this country with 10 million illegals and 198 Democrats at the command, by the way, of the White House and Joe Biden to vote against it, voted against the commonsense measure that would block that from happening. Thank God, by the way, that Tim Wesco and state legislators in Indiana passed. House Bill 1264 earlier this year was signed into law in March. That would do what we’re talking about, a federal law that would mirror what Wesco and the state legislators Indianapolis did to prevent, to go even further, to prevent illegals from voting in Indiana. But we got to do that nationwide or these Democrats are going to try to do, a large cheat and steal in the upcoming 2024 election too. I mean also, Tony, some estimates there that in Arizona you had over 10,000 non-citizens receive federal ballots in the mail in the 2020 election and Joe Biden won Arizona by about 10,500 votes. So, these types of things need to be fixed heading into this next upcoming election, or we can see where this is heading to the as the Democrats flood our country with more illegals and try to give them more rights to vote.

Tony Katz:

We talked about the border and certainly it’s been a kind of secondary subject as of late, and I’ll get into why in in a minute. We have seen, though, that the president had long said that. He doesn’t have the power you need to give him the power you need to give him this vote. You had to vote for the bipartisan bill put forth by people like Senator Sinema and Senator James Lankford, Republican of Oklahoma. And then that did not go through. And the next thing you know, you, you have him saying, well, the I’ll do these things on my own as if he always had the power to begin with. So now that it’s been a few weeks past that, are you seeing or hearing from people on Border Patrol who follow these things? We’re getting a better result. We had heard last week that crossings were down. Does it continue to trend in that direction or was that a temporary thing?

Jim Banks:

Well, I mean, it might be down, but in the in the, in the grand equation, over 10 million illegals, it’s more than the population of the entire state of Indiana that have flooded our country on Joe Biden’s watch. And even Democrats admit that those numbers are accurate or probably even a low estimate of what’s happened over the last four years. So, it might be there might be a blip, it might be down for the moment, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t still illegals flooding into our country because the Biden border policies. Until you go back to Trump policies remain in Mexico, complete construction of the wall and the stop the catch and release policies of the Biden administration, none of this is fixed, and Donald Trump, by the way, is equipped to fix it on day one when he’s sworn in on January 20th. He’s going back to the White House after taking the oath of office and sign executive orders to put those policies back in place. But Congress has to act, too. This is why we have to have a majority in the United States Senate of Republicans, grow the majority in the House, and then make law, these Trump policies, the law of the land to secure the border, to save this country. That will be our first mission. When I get to the United States Senate.

Tony Katz:

You mentioned that it’s been a bad week for the Democrats, and I think you’re being kind when you say the word “bad”. You walk those halls, you see a Democrats, you may have a serious policy and belief disagreements, but you still do talk, you still do say “hello”. You still do end up having lunch next to somebody. The question before us is, what are they really saying behind closed doors about President Biden and his future, not only as a possible nominee, but as the sitting president right now?

Jim Banks:

The Democrats are shell shocked. They came out of their conference meeting yesterday and some reporters said it, they it looked like they were leaving a funeral. I mean, that’s the attitude of the Democrats. I’ve had private conversations off the floor with a handful of them, some of them who have called on Joe Biden to step down. They know they’re in a bad position. These Democrats don’t want to be on the ballot with a president that they know is unfit. They’ve known for a long time he’s unfit to be the president. They’ve lied about it. This is the biggest cover up in a modern American politics that the media and these Democrats have covered up the condition of a president who is obviously not fit to be president for another six months, let alone another four years.

Jim Banks:

they’re stuck with this guy until he can, until he decides that he’s going to step down as the Democrat nominee. But there are no indications that he’s willing to do that because the Biden family, the Biden family crime cartel makes a lot of money off of Joe Biden in the White House and that they want to do everything they can to protect it, keep it. They might be working on some kind of a buyout or something to protect Jill and Hunter and the rest of them if they do drop out to protect them from what might come next either legally or financially. I don’t know what those conversations are like, but the Democrats are in a sad state of affairs. You could see it in their eyes and. The ones that are that are willing to talk about it, admit it. The other thing I’ve noticed… there is not a single Democrat is defending Joe Biden. OK? There might be some of them that that say that they’re sticking with them, but they don’t say that he’s up for it, that he’s going to be a good, that he’s going to be a good President for another four years. You never hear a single Democrat say that out loud because they know it’s not true.

Tony Katz:

Has anyone been asking from the congressional side via letter or privately? “Hey, Cabinet, 25th amendment, what are we doing here?

Jim Banks:

Chip Roy, Republican from Texas, has called, has called for that. I mean, selfishly, Tony, I want Joe Biden to be on the ballot because Donald Trump is going to, is not just going to win, he’s going to win in a historic landslide. He’s going to pull. He’s already pulling, going to pull a lot of Republican votes along with them. So, I know if Joe Biden’s on the ballot. In November, Donald Trump is going to win, but that this is where the Democrats are stuck. If they turn the page from Biden, they put Kamala Harris on the ballot, Donald Trump’s going to win by even more than he would beat Joe Biden by. So that’s, that’s the, that’s the trap. Democrats find them and for themselves. And at the moment, and I got to say I’m enjoying it.

Tony Katz:

I need the country 1st, and we’re not safe with Biden in office. So, any pressure to make the 25th happen, the election will be the election, we’ve got to worry about the country today. That is that is my take, and I don’t change from it.
