INDIANAPOLIS — Three children and a man were arrested Tuesday after trying to carjack a person near Indy’s southwest side.
IMPD arrived on West Wilkins Street, near South Belmont Avenue and West Morris Street. Witnesses say the four suspects wore face masks and had a gun and a baseball bat. One of the suspects threatened the victim with the gun and told him to give them his car keys. The victim told officers he knew the car would not start, so he handed over the keys and went inside his home.
When officers arrived, the suspects, who were unable to start the vehicle after trying to steal it, ran from them and began jumping fences, but they were all apprehended. Officers also recovered the gun and a face mask.
Shortly before the attempted carjacking, police were told that the same four suspects were spotted near an SUV with a broken window that was stolen from Wisconsin. The vehicle was later towed.
All four people were arrested and were preliminarily charged with robbery and resisting law enforcement.
Officers identified the man as 18-year-old Jack Carcamo. Court documents say he is set to have his first court hearing next Tuesday.
