Moderate House Democrats tore into their liberal colleagues in a leaked caucus-wide conference call Thursday. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and “The Squad” took the brunt of the abuse for what centrists said was an ‘anti-police, pro-socialist’ agenda that cost the party a number of seats in the 2020 elections.

Rep. Abigail Spanberger, who barely eked out a win in central Virginia, called Democrats’ campaign strategy “a failure.

“No one should say ‘defund the police’ ever again,” Spanberger yelled. “Nobody should be talking about socialism.”

Spanberger added that if progressives continue to use this rhetoric, “We will get f*****g torn apart in 2022.”

“I do disagree, Abigail, that it was a failure,” replied a defensive Speaker Nancy Pelosi. “We won the House.”

Barely.

Heading into the elections, Democrats had predicted they would gain seats – even in mostly-conservative districts. Instead, Republicans defeated at least seven Democratic incumbents, most of them first-term lawmakers who had helped deliver the party’s House majority just two years ago.

At one point on the call, Florida Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, who failed in her bid for reelection, cried and said no one could pronounce her name, according to a Washington Post reporter.

Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib said on the call that the party needs “to do a real autopsy and dig through it” before attacking each other.

“Don’t blame myself and others who are fighting for issues that matter to our communities,” Tlaib said.
