Black Lives Matter members gathered in Chicago Monday to support those who were arrested following widespread looting and rioting that caused at least $60 million in property damage and saw 13 police officers injured, according to a report from Fox News.

At least one Black Lives Matter organizer who spoke to media appeared to justify the looting as “reparations.”

“I don’t care if someone decides to loot a Gucci or a Macy’s or a Nike store, because that makes sure that person eats,” said Ariel Atkins, a BLM organizer, according to NBC Chicago. “That makes sure that person has clothes.”

“That is reparations,” Atkins continued. “Anything they wanted to take, they can take it because these businesses have insurance.”

WIBC host Tony Katz:

“The excusing of looting is what Black Lives Matter is doing? You ask why I can’t separate the politics from the people? It’s time to accept that the name ‘Black Lives Matter,’ which is good branding, comes from a group of people who are not interested in America. They’re interested in this idea of destruction. They’re interested in doing away with America and the rule of law. And they think they can brush it all off by just saying, ‘Well, it’s reparations.’ They can just say it and somehow Gucci has to accept it.”
