INDIANAPOLIS — A child shot and killed on the northeast side of Indianapolis late last night.
Metro police said it happened along North Tacoma Avenue near Washington Park between Keystone and 34th Street. Officers got to the home, went inside, and found Rodgerick Payne, just 8-years-old, suffering from a gunshot wound.
The young boy was taken to the hospital and later died.
“We don’t know if this was a drive-by shooting or if this was a gun battle between one or two individuals,” Maj. Harold Turner said.
Turner said “numerous” shots were fired from the street and it’s not clear if someone inside the home was the intended target. He said they are still investigating and don’t have any suspects to speak of.
