Former Bartholomew County Trustee Arrested for $1 Million Theft

COLUMBUS, Ind. — A former Columbus Township Trustee faces multiple felony charges over stealing money.
Benjamin P. Jackson, 56, was arrested this week after an investigation from Indiana State Police revealed he stole over $1 million in public funds.
The investigation first began in October 2024 when ISP said they received a tip regarding a pattern of personal purchases made by Jackson using township credit cards. Troopers found a line of purchases made by Jackson since 2016 that amounted to around $1.1 million.
Troopers submitted their findings to the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office this May.
Jackson faces multiple charges including corrupt business influence, forgery, official misconduct, and theft. He’s currently held at the Bartholomew County Jail awaiting his initial court appearance.
Jackson served as trustee starting in 2013 before resigning in November of 2024.
