BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says they spotted a person who died inside a car at a Walmart in Bloomington.

Around noon on Sunday, authorities arrived in the 3500 block of West State Road 45, near South Leonard Springs Road and South Curry Pike, where the person had crashed their car into a light pole. Officers were also told the driver hit a concrete light ball base. Many dogs, who were inside the car, would not let other people access the driver due to their aggressive behavior.

Firefighters later opened a car door, and around eight dogs got out, biting at least one firefighter and another person. Both were taken to a hospital to be treated for their injuries.

After deputies found the dogs on Sunday, some of which were by the Walmart, they were all taken to an animal shelter.

According to surveillance video from the parking lot, authorities say the driver was slowly driving and hitting the light pole Sunday morning. Deputies believe the driver had a medical emergency, but there is no word on the cause of death. They do not believe any criminal activity took place. Detectives also found out the person was living out of the vehicle, and they were typically seen at that Walmart.

The identity of the driver has not been released.
