Changes to SNAP

INDIANA– SNAP will see some changes coming.
Starting in 2026, Hoosiers using SNAP food assistance may encounter some different policies at the checkout.
Governor Mike Braun announced that Indiana has received federal approval to restrict the use of taxpayer-funded benefits for purchasing candy and soda. This new policy, part of the Governor’s “Make Indiana Healthy Again” initiative signed via executive order in April, aims to encourage healthier food choices and combat diet-related health issues.
State officials hope this move will improve food quality in low-income communities and hope that Hoosiers will start to choose healthier dietary choices. Officials state the goal is to encourage healthier dietary choices and help reduce diet-related health issues among Hoosiers.
