Police: Patron Tackled Shooter at Jackson County Library in Seymour
SEYMOUR, Ind. One person was injured as a man shot through the glass of one of the doors of the Jackson County Library in Seymour about noon Wednesday. Indiana State Police Sgt. Stephen Wheeles said the person who tackled the suspect was a patron at the library.
“A male…was carrying a long gun of some kind, fired at least one shot initially upon entering the library. Fortunately nobody was struck by the initial shot,” said Wheeles.
An employee had some minor injuries from flying glass.
The man made his way to the second floor.
“Just a patron of the library approached him and was able to hold him until police officers arrived,” he said. “Start to finish we’re looking at under two minutes that it took for police to have him in custody.”
Police were alerted to the situation when someone called 911 and reported an active shooter.
Emiliano Cuevas Bravo, 18, of Seymour, is charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.
Police have not publicly discussed a motive.
“That’s not something that we typically release. That’s something that may take some time,” said Wheeles, who said police would not speculate.
