Woman on Southwest Flight Strips Naked, Defecates on Seat
In a strange and disturbing event, a woman on a Southwest Airlines flight reportedly removed her clothing and defecated on her seat, leading airline officials to alert police upon the plane’s arrival in Chicago.
Southwest Airlines confirmed that Flight 418, traveling from Philadelphia to Chicago’s Midway Airport, was met by law enforcement and medical teams due to “a customer-related incident.”
“Our Teams are reaching out to those onboard to apologize for the situation and any delays to their travel plans,” the airline said in a statement to NBC New York. “Nothing is more important to Southwest than the safety of our customers and employees, and we appreciate the professionalism of our flight crew.”
The aircraft was subsequently grounded and taken out of service for a thorough cleaning. The current status of the involved passenger has not been disclosed.
Southwest Airlines recently encountered a similar incident of a passenger stripping and shouting on a Phoenix-bound plane. The incident took place in March on a flight from Houston to Phoenix. Two passengers told 12News the aircraft had just started taxiing when the woman, while fully clothed, walked to the front of the plane and started yelling. The woman apparently wanted to get off the flight. She started screaming and jumping. As the plane continued to move, she started to undress herself.
Witnesses on board said they tried to stay calm and avoid escalating the situation. At one point, according to a passenger, the woman, now naked, approached a flight attendant and made physical contact, rubbing against them. The aircraft returned to the gate, where an airline employee boarded and covered the woman with a blanket. The flight experienced a delay of just over an hour before it was cleared to continue on to Phoenix.
