Public Defender Indicted on 11 Child Exploitation and Sex Charges

INDIANAPOLIS — An 11-count indictment has been filed against Guillermo Yanez, a public defender with the Marion County Public Defender’s Office, on charges related to the exploitation of minors.
Yanez, 23, is accused of attempting to send explicit photos and videos to children he believed to be under 18. He is also accused of requesting sexual images from minors and giving them instructions for sexual acts. The indictment includes charges of soliciting minors for sexual conduct.
The incidents are alleged to have occurred between 2023 and 2024. Yanez faces multiple felony charges, including child exploitation, dissemination of matter harmful to minors, and vicarious sexual gratification.
According to the Indiana Bar Association’s website, Yanez was admitted to practice law in Indiana in October of last year, just one month after police say he agreed with another person to commit child exploitation.
A timeline of the charges is as follows:
**January 1, 2023**: Yanez allegedly attempted vicarious sexual gratification by instructing a child under 14 to engage in inappropriate acts and sending explicit videos to someone he believed to be a minor. –
**January 4, 2023**: Yanez is accused of attempting to induce a child under 14 to engage in inappropriate sexual conduct and sending explicit content to a minor. –
**March 26, 2023**: Yanez allegedly sent a digital image of his genitals to a child he believed to be under 18, taking a step toward disseminating harmful material to minors. –
**March 29, 2023**: Further charges include Yanez attempting vicarious sexual gratification and soliciting a child under 14 for sexual conduct.
**September 4, 2024**: Yanez is accused of agreeing to commit child exploitation by sending explicit photos of a child and requesting sexual images from a minor he believed to be under 18.
WIBC Radio contacted the Marion County Public Defender’s Office for comment but did not receive a response. Court records show that Yanez is scheduled for an initial hearing today.
