INDIANAPOLIS — Rain and freezing rain are expected to move into Indiana later today, with rain in Indianapolis and freezing rain affecting northern parts of the state.
Jason Puma of the National Weather Service in Indianapolis said central Indiana will see widespread rain, while areas to the north could experience freezing rain, leading to slick roads.
“We’re anticipating widespread rain to develop across central Indiana, with areas to the north seeing freezing rain that could lead to slick conditions,” Puma said.
Indianapolis can expect rain through the evening, while freezing rain may accumulate in northern areas. Travelers heading north should be prepared for hazardous road conditions.
“So if you’re traveling up that way and you encounter freezing precipitation, you have to be prepared for slick roads,” Puma said. “Be prepared to slow down and be especially careful on untreated surfaces.”
More mixed weather is expected Saturday, with rain and snow in the forecast. Snowfall should be light but could create tricky driving conditions.
“Saturday brings more mixed weather to Indiana, with rain and snow in the forecast,” Puma said.
Snow is possible Monday or Tuesday early next week, but Puma said it’s too soon to predict the amount.
“It’s still a little early to talk about snow amounts with that system next week,” he said. “We don’t have any specific amounts at this time—it’s still two to three systems away.”
