SOUTH BEND, Ind.—The Notre Dame Fighting Irish jumped out early and never looked back in their 27-17 victory over the Indiana Hoosiers in the College Football Playoff Friday night at Notre Dame Stadium.
After both teams had turnovers, Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love had a 98-yard rushing touchdown to put the Irish up 7-0.
Indiana was forced to punt on the next drive. Then Notre Dame went on a 16 play drive that took 9:08 off the clock and lasted 83 yards. The drive ended with a 5-yard touchdown pass from Riley Leonard to Jayden Thomas.
The Hoosiers got a 34-yard field goal from Nicolas Radicic, but Notre Dame would get a field goal of their own to make it 17-3 Notre Dame at halftime.
Indiana didn’t pick up another first down after that until the fourth quarter and the Irish extended the lead to 27-3. They did get touchdown passes from quarterback Kurtis Rourke to Myles Price and Omar Cooper late in the fourth quarter.
Notre Dame improves to 12-1. They will face Georgia in the Sugar Bowl on January 1, which is also the College Football Playoff Quarterfinal.
Indiana finishes the year 11-2, which set a single season school record for victories.
