CNN Is “Exhibit A” As To Why Trust In The Media Continues To Fall
Is it any wonder why trust in the media continues to fall? The latest embarrassment for the MSM is CNN “helping free” a Syrian prisoner that just happened to be notorious lieutenant for the Assad regime, and not civilian as he claimed.
Tony Katz:
The question before us is why were the CNN folk trying to help? And you say to me, “Tony, you’re really going to object. You’re really going to object to the idea that that you were trying to help a prisoner get free?” I object to the idea that the news organization should have gotten involved at all. This isn’t a conversation of seeing a car accident in your local neighborhood and you jump into action and put down your camera to make sure the people inside the cars are alive and healthy and safe, getting the medical attention they need. This is an Assad prison. Maybe CNN, you don’t get to make this call, maybe, just maybe, you were acting in a way that was all made for the cameras and not based in reality.
They said, “get the cameras together, boys. We got ourselves a shot that’s gonna go round the world. We’re gonna win a prize for sure. Golly, Jeepers, CNN’s going to be so happy with us.”… Ohh. You took a guy out of a prison cell. And it turns out that he was one of the torturers. You didn’t know that there was a possibility you could be lied to. And the answer is, I don’t think they cared. That they could be lied to. It meant nothing to them. What mattered to them was the shot. Get this image out as opposed to get the story right. What? What was? What was the point of doing it? The point of doing it was their audience will never question. They’ll just be like, “ohh, look at that” and never ask the deeper, harder questions… Wow, look at Clarissa Ward, “how brave.” They had to know it was a scam from the beginning, right? They knew it was a scam. I hate to think it’s true, but I don’t know what else I’m supposed to think.
