A woman, ironically named “Karen,” is suing her former employer all because she did not receive a “farewell card” on her last day of work.

Sometimes the shoe just fits. Karen Conaghan was recently laid off by her employer, IAG (parent company of British Airways.) On her last day, she pulled the ultimate “talk to my lawyer” move after the company did not send her off with well wishes in the form of a greeting card.

The UK woman filed over 40 complaints against the company for victimization, unfair dismissal, and in her words “failure to acknowledge her existence” which breaches the equality law.

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR, KAREN!

After an official investigation by an employment tribunal, it appears the company did in fact have a card for Karen. The company told the tribunal that only “two or three” people were willing to sign it. The managers decided to opt for not giving her the card because let’s face it, giving her a card with little to no signatures is worse than not giving her one at all.

The tribunal ultimately dismissed all 40 claims Karen filed. The judge concluded that the woman had adopted a “conspiracy-theory mentality” within the workplace.

We’re sure Karen will be receiving plenty of ‘farewell’ cards in her future.
