NOBLESVILLE, IND — The Grant County Prosecutor’s office has charged a 16-year-old boy with carjacking a woman earlier this week. Police say Dalton Dee Wayne Spalding and another man threatened a woman and stole her car.
The other person involved in the case is Tyler Thomas. After they stole the car, they led police on a chase through several counties. The pursuit stopped when they crashed at an intersection in Noblesville.
“The thing that is most concerning to me is we have two people who think it’s OK to hold up a woman at gunpoint and take her car for their purposes,” says Grant County Prosecutor Scott Hunt.
Hunt says that Spalding asked the woman to use her cell phone and then pressed a handgun against her side and demanded the keys to her car.
“This is the first carjacking that I’ve seen of this magnitude since I’ve been a prosecutor here,” Hunt says.
Hunt says Indiana law mandates prosecutors to file adult charges against Spalding due to the armed robbery involved.
“The juvenile court has no jurisdiction over him,” he added.
Police found Thomas hiding in the Hamilton East Public Library. Spalding was arrested while running away from the crash scene.
No court dates have been set for Spalding or Thomas. They are both being held at Hamilton County Jail, where the chase ended.
