WASHINGTON — One of your lawmakers is putting more pressure on the Biden administration to get a handle on the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border.

According to border patrol agents in McCallen, Texas over 400,000 illegal immigrants were able to cross the border and into the U.S. without being arrested. This has Sen. Todd Young of Indiana “pleading” with President Biden and Vice-President Harris to take action.

“Secure the border, enforce the laws of the land, keep the American people safe during a global pandemic and a heightened risk of terrorism,” Young said directly to the White House and his Democratic colleagues in Congress. “Do the right thing. Show some leadership.”

Nearly 200,000 people were apprehended by border patrol in the month of August.

Young says these people were “humanly” taken into custody after being caught. He also said that Democrats are floating the idea of slipping an immigrant amnesty provision into the $3.5 trillion social spending bill being considered by lawmakers, a provision that would give illegal immigrants already in the U.S. amnesty for entering the U.S. illegally.

“I will be fighting, my colleagues will be fighting hammer and tong against this complete abdication of leadership moving forward,” Young said. “Ultimately, so many of these individuals end up trafficking drugs, trafficking persons, trafficking young children, and that ends up impacting the lives of all Americans.”

Young said this is the worst he has seen on the southern border since he served as a Marine along the border in Arizona in the mid-1990s.

On Wednesday a group of Republican governors of states along the border asked President Biden to reinstate Trump-era policies that including building more sections of Border Wall, deploying more federal agents, and forcing asylum-seekers to wait in Mexico for hearings.
