Marion VA Center Fire Caused $20 Million in Damages

MARION, Ind. — The fire at the Marion VA Medical Center campus a few weeks ago caused $20 million in damages, officials say.
The Marion Indiana Fire Department released an update about the Feb. 21 fire on Tuesday, saying that a joint investigation was conducted with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The building, located on East 38th Street in Marion, is a federal site.
More than 50 firefighters from a few different departments responded to the blaze at around 6:30 a.m. that Saturday. When crews arrived, they found the hospital fully engulfed in flames, with the fire starting in Building 53.
The cause of the fire has been ruled as undetermined due to the building’s heavy damage. The estimated damage to the building’s structures and what was inside it was $20 million.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
